Choosing the Right Hayman Reese Hitch
Accurate weight distribution plays a crucial role in the performance of your caravan towing setup. It is responsible for keeping your towing vehicle level with the road, preventing your trailer from swaying while you drive, optimising the performance of your vehicle, and helping you maintain control over steering and braking. Without a weight distribution hitch, lugging a caravan through bumpy country roads and meandering terrain can be a daunting exercise, and not a very safe one either. Fortify your trailer with a good quality Hayman Reese Weight Distribution Hitch, and make your future road trips a breeze.
Why Hayman Reese?
An obvious reason to choose a Hayman Reese Weight Distribution Hitch for your trailer lies in the superior quality of design and engineering that characterises all Hayman Reese products. But there’s more. Hayman Reese offers the full range of towing solutions specifically tailored for the Australian market. The towing hitch range offered by the brand can also be complemented by accessories such as brake controllers, sway controllers, power harnesses, trailer ball mounts, and even battery performance monitors for towing vehicles. This allows you immense freedom to customise and assemble a weight distribution system for every variety of towing scenario, camping or otherwise.
Criteria for selection of a Hayman Reese Hitch
The Hayman Reese towing hitch range features a number of pre-set weight distribution systems for various trailer weights. These include the Mini and Intermediate hitches, the Classic and Standard kits with load ratings of 600lb and 800lb, and the 1200lb kit for extra heavy applications. Selecting an appropriate weight distribution hitch is fairly simple. The main criterion for selection is the working load that the towing hitch will have to handle. This can be assessed either in terms of the gross trailer weight, or (more commonly) the ball weight, which refers to the sum of the trailer’s tongue weight and any load being carried in the towing vehicle’s boot. This ball weight usually measures about 10 per cent of the gross trailer weight, and can as such be easily estimated from the weight of your trailer at full capacity. Every Hayman Reese Weight Distribution Hitch is calibrated for a specific ball weight range. For instance, the Mini hitch is rated for ball weights up to 180lb (up to 80kg), making it ideal for light towing purposes. The Classic series with trunnion style bars, as well as the Standard series with round bars, include 2 different models each, for ball weights of 600lb (135kg to 275kg) and 800lb (275kg to 365kg).
The Hayman Reese Weight Distribution Hitch range is a popular choice of caravan accessory, and can be purchased from both our online and brick-and-mortar parts stores.
