To effectively manage your power system with an Enerdrive B-TEC 200Ah battery, a 40A DC2DC charger, a 40A/60A AC charger and an ePro Plus Battery Monitor, it's important to know how these components interact in your energy setup.

  • B-TEC 200Ah Lithium Battery: This serves as the cornerstone of your energy storage system, with a 200 ampere-hour capacity. It is the source of electrical energy for powering your appliances and devices, regardless of whether your application is an RV, boat, or another off-grid setup.
  • 40A DC2DC Charger: The DC-to-DC charger plays a pivotal role in your setup. It diligently regulates and transforms incoming DC power from various sources, such as your vehicle's alternator or solar panels, ensuring it's efficiently channeled to recharge the battery. With a capability of delivering a maximum charging current of 40 amps when sourcing power from DC sources, it guarantees the optimal charging performance.
  • 40A/60A AC Charger: The AC charger is used for recharging the battery when you have access to an AC power source, such as when your vehicle or setup is connected to shore power or an external generator. This charger converts AC power into DC power and delivers up to 40/60 amps to recharge the battery.
  • ePRO Plus Battery Monitor: The ePRO Plus Battery Monitor is a critical component that keeps you informed about the state of your battery. It provides real-time data on your battery's voltage, current, state of charge, and more. This monitoring system enables you to keep a close eye on your battery's health, ensuring you have a clear understanding of its performance and capacity. With this information, you can make informed decisions about your energy usage and recharging strategy.

Here's how these components work together:

  • The 40A DC2DC charger is responsible for charging the lithium battery when you're driving or have access to DC power sources like solar panels. It ensures the battery is charged efficiently from these sources.
  • The AC charger becomes relevant when you are connected to an AC power source, such as a campsite with electricity hookups, a marina with shore power or a generator. It provides a convenient means to recharge the battery when AC power is available.
  • The ePRO Plus Battery Monitor is an essential part of your setup, offering real-time insights into your battery's voltage, current, state of charge, and more. It keeps you informed about the battery's performance, helping you optimise your energy usage and make informed decisions about recharging.

The combination of DC charging, AC charging, and the battery monitor offers a comprehensive and adaptable solution for recharging your battery in various scenarios. The DC charger is perfect for on-the-go charging, the AC charger is convenient when you're connected to grid power, and the ePRO Plus Battery Monitor ensures you have full control and awareness of your battery's health, regardless of your location.

This setup offers flexibility in recharging your battery, taking into account both your mobility and access to AC power sources. To make the most of these components, it's essential to consult the manufacturer's recommendations and user manuals for each piece of equipment. This will ensure proper installation and operation tailored to your specific application, whether it's in an RV, boat, or another off-grid setup.

Q & A

  • I am looking at an Enerdrive lithium battery to install in my Camper - does it need to be installed in a ventilated area?

You don't need to worry about the area being especially ventilated as the batteries do not vent. In terms of other install tips:

    1. Keep the battery upright, do not mount it on its side.
    2. Enerdrive recommends keep the battery in a cool dry area to improve longevity.
  • What size battery do I need for my caravan?

Great question! Your deep cycle battery for your caravan will be a minimum of 100 Amp Hours (Ah).

The average size for a Caravan is 200Ah. Usually, 2 x 100Ah connected in Parallel. However, if your budget allows to upgrade to a Lithium battery you can get a lot more power for the size of the battery. For example, a 200Ah lithium battery can be equivalent to up to 360 Ah of an AGM battery.

To work out exactly what size you require you need to first look at the load you are planning on drawing. The load should be calculated in Amps per hour, or Amp Hours (Ah). Batteries are rated in Amp Hours (Ah) as well.

So, if you are drawing a 50Ah per day, a 100Ah AGM battery can provide power for about 1 day as you do not want to draw more than 50% from your battery. However, it is not always easy to find what each appliance draws. Some popular examples are following:

    • 150L 12V Fridge = 2.5 Amps per hour (2.5Ah) - runs for 24 hours a day
    • 12V Water Pump = 3.5 Amps per hour (3.5Ah) - only runs for 1 hour a day
    • Phone Charger = 0.5 Amps per hour (0.5Ah) - Maybe 4 hours per day
    • 12V Fan = 4 Amps per hour (4Ah) - Maybe 4 hours per day

Then you will need to factor in how much charge you are putting in Daily. The charge comes in the way of Solar and in car charging via a DC to DC charger.

Ideally you want enough charge input per day to cover the load drawn, then enough battery storage to last 2 - 3 days without charge.

  • What is best - AGM or lithium battery?

The answer is simple. Lithium is a better product than AGM.

Lithium is lighter, more compact, and powerful, it will also last longer.

However, a lithium battery will cost more, because it is a highly sort after product. Almost everything that has a battery nowadays will have a lithium battery. Mobile phone, Electric Car, Electric Bike and Skateboard just to name a few.

There are situations where you can get away with an AGM battery. If you only need about 100ah (most 4 x 4 set ups), you can purchase 1 x 100ah battery and a battery box and away you go.

However, once you start getting into the larger amperages (200+) it really makes more sense to turn to lithium.

  • How do I charge my caravan battery?

There are three ways to charge your caravan Battery. Either:

    • AC to DC - This is using a traditional battery charger that plugs into mains power.
    • DC to DC - This is a battery charger connected between the start battery of your tow vehicle and the Caravan Battery. This will charge the battery whilst driving.
    • Solar - Solar panels on your roof can be connected to a solar charge controller then to your Caravan Battery.
  • How much solar do I need to keep my caravan battery charged?

Ideally, you want use as much solar as you can fit on the roof. Extra portable solar panels are also good idea if you want to park your van in the shade and run a portable panel from a lead in the sun - please see our solar range here.

Solar is cheap relative to the rest of your system, and it provides so much of your power when you are camping off grid.

However, the solar required depends on the load. Please feel free to contact our team for any specific questions on your battery - 1800 787 278!

  • How many cells are in the Enerdrive 200Ah Btec Battery?

There are 32 (8x 4) Prismatic Cells in the 200Ah Btech Battery.

  • What size generator should I use for charging a battery?

The below generators are the minimum recommend sizes based on an AVR generator:

    • 800VA 2KVA
    • 1200VA 2.5KVA
    • 1600VA 3KVA
    • 3000VA 5KVA
    • 5000VA 8KVA

If your generator is smaller than the recommended size for your inverter/charger, you will definitely need to adjust the settings on the inverter/charger and reduce the AC input current limit, and/or a DC charge current limit to prevent overloading the generator. If you do want an inverter based generator get one that is at least 30% larger than required than an equivalent AVR based model to help prevent overloads.

  • Can these chargers take solar input?

No, the battery charging component is an AC input, meaning only AC power (mains power) can charge through this unit.

  • How can I remotely monitor and control my devices?

You need a GX device to get remote monitoring. We recommend the Cerbo GX and an RJ45 UTP cable to connect it to the inverter. You can hardwire an ethernet connection to the unit, or connect it to a Wifi signal.
